How to use the Image Resizer
- Click "Choose an image" or drag a photo into the box.
- Enter the width and height in pixels, pick a popular size, or switch to Percentage.
- If the new shape is different from your photo, choose Crop to fill, Fit inside or Stretch.
- Click "Resize image", check the preview, then download your resized image.
Choosing the right image size
Websites, forms and social apps often need images at a particular size. A profile picture may need to be square, a YouTube thumbnail must be 1280 × 720 pixels, and many exam and job portals ask for a photo of an exact width and height. Resizing also makes huge phone photos (often 4000 pixels wide) much smaller and quicker to send.
Pixels are the tiny dots that make up an image. Width × height in pixels is what websites mean by "image size" or "dimensions". Keep aspect ratio switched on if you only need the image bigger or smaller — the height then follows the width automatically, so nothing looks squashed.
When you need an exact shape that is different from your photo, such as a square from a rectangular picture, turn aspect ratio off and choose what should happen. Crop to fill trims the edges and usually looks best. Fit inside keeps the whole picture and adds white (or transparent) borders. Stretch forces the image into the new shape.
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it much larger than the original cannot add detail, so the result may look soft. If you need a smaller file size rather than smaller dimensions, use the Image Compressor as well.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Your image is resized inside your browser on your own device. It is never uploaded to a server, so it stays private.
How do I resize a photo without stretching it?
Keep "Keep aspect ratio" switched on and change only the width (or height). The other side updates automatically so the picture keeps its shape.
How do I make a rectangular photo square?
Turn off "Keep aspect ratio", enter the same width and height (for example 500 × 500), and choose "Crop to fill" to trim the edges or "Fit inside" to add borders.
Will resizing reduce image quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Enlarging it beyond its original size cannot add new detail, so very large increases may look blurry.
Does resizing reduce the file size?
Usually yes, because fewer pixels means less data. For the smallest file, resize first and then use the Image Compressor.
How do I resize a photo for a form that needs it in cm or mm?
Forms that give sizes in cm usually assume 300 pixels per inch for print. Multiply the size in cm by 118 to get pixels — for example, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm is about 413 × 531 pixels.
